About Rory & The Moment
I love film.
I remember the moment it all began. I was six-years-old and at a friend’s house. While running down the hallway, I glanced at the TV playing in the lounge through an open door. There was Roger Moore sliding down the banister, armed with a machine gun, in the James Bond film Octopussy. Although we were meant to be doing other things, I couldn't get the image out of my head for the rest of the day. Soon, I was a huge Bond fan, going down to my local Blockbusters and renting a new film every week.
It wasn’t long after that my bedroom wall was covered in poster reproductions of various Bond movies, and I could see the obvious. Posters make great artwork. I loved looking at them and escaping into the movies, being amongst all the action, glamour, and style. My mum could appreciate my passion too. One day, she passed me a tube containing a poster.
Look after this one, she said. It's an original.
Opening it up, very carefully, I discovered it was a Licence to Kill quad. It was possibly my least favourite Bond poster for design, but I was fascinated by the originality of it. I felt as if I had a piece of movie history in my hands. As the years went on, my love for all different genres of film grew, and I really began to build a collection. Raiders of the Lost Ark was my first big purchase, confirming my love for the action genre, but then I moved onto Revenge of the Jedi (Sci-Fi) and a re-release of Breakfast at Tiffany’s (Romance).
A few years later, needing money, I decided to sell one of my posters and couldn’t believe the increase in price during the time I had owned the piece. Where I had a Style C quad poster originally purchased in 2015 for £650, I could later sell it at £1700. At the time, that seemed like a small fortune to me, but now I would pay that price in seconds given that they currently sell for around £4-6k (as of May 2024) and only seem to be continuing to climb.
After the Covid lockdowns, my events business closed and I thought it was time to get a "proper 9-5" job. Shortly after, I got a job I wasn't so interested in. On my first morning of my new job, I exited the train station and saw film cameras stretched down the road, with production crew bustling about. Intrigued, I walked up to them and heard an extra quietly say that he was arriving. I wondered who they could mean, a black car pulled up in front of me a few seconds later. Out stepped Tom Cruise and his bodyguard. We managed to have a brief conversation about my love for his work, and he told me a few details about the next Mission Impossible (at a safe covid friendly distance of course). I went into the office to start my first day and all I could think about was that moment. I felt like that six-year-old again when I couldn’t get my first glimpse of Bond out of my head. If Tom Cruise can do what he loves, why can’t I? I left the job the same day.
Later, I interviewed and began to work for an art dealership. I got my hands on some of the best pieces in the world, while also learning a lot about the overall business, the verification of pieces, the global market, and investment potentials.
In late 2022, I started The Moment, a place where collectors, investors and movie lovers find some of the greatest pieces in the world. With my passion and gained knowledge, I’ve travelled all over the world finding pieces in all sorts of places. A market on the outskirts of Tokyo, an atelier in Paris, and an art dealer's house in the home of Hollywood itself, Los Angeles.
The Moment works with some of the finest linen-backers, restoration teams and framers out there. We can meet your needs whether it’s for a single piece on the wall, or to build a collection. So, if you want a little slice of the movies, consider buying from us.
Make this your moment.
