Original Vintage Steve McQueen Posters

Steve McQueen’s screen persona, cool, understated, magnetic, translated directly into some of the most consistently collected star-led movie posters of the 1960s and 70s. His theatrical paper is among the most sought-after of any actor of his generation, spanning war epics, heist thrillers, and motor racing films that speak directly to two of collecting’s strongest categories at once.

The Magnificent Seven and early stardom

The Magnificent Seven (1960), alongside Yul Brynner, introduced McQueen to mainstream audiences, and campaign material from this early breakthrough remains among his most sought-after by collectors tracing his full career arc.

The Great Escape and the Cooler King

The Great Escape (1963) gave McQueen his most iconic role, Hilts, the “Cooler King”, and the original campaign, built around his motorcycle leap over the perimeter fence, is a masterclass in understated action poster design. Original one sheets in genuinely fine condition are increasingly scarce, since McQueen’s enduring appeal has driven demand well beyond the surviving supply of top-grade examples.

Bullitt and the defining car chase

Bullitt (1968) paired McQueen with one of cinema’s most influential car chases, filmed through the real streets of San Francisco, and its poster campaign captures that kinetic energy in still form. International variants add real depth here, with Japanese and European campaigns often giving McQueen’s Ford Mustang a starring role of its own.

Le Mans and the motorsport crossover

Le Mans (1971), McQueen’s own passion project built from his genuine love of endurance racing, sits at the exact intersection of film and motorsport collecting, appealing to buyers from both categories at once. Alongside The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), Papillon (1973), and The Towering Inferno (1974), it extends McQueen’s collectible range well beyond the action and war genres most associated with him.

International campaigns

As with most major stars of his era, McQueen’s films were extensively re-illustrated for different markets, with German, Japanese, Polish, and other national campaigns often taking a genuinely different artistic approach to the same film. This gives collectors focused specifically on McQueen real scope to build variety within a single title.

What drives value

The Great Escape and Bullitt sit at the top of most McQueen collections in terms of demand, with condition, as ever, doing much of the work in setting price. Because his screen image has remained so consistently fashionable across decades, interest in his key titles has shown real staying power.

Buying with confidence

Check printing method, paper stock, and NSS number against the specific release year, and be particularly attentive with Bullitt and The Great Escape, given how frequently their most famous images are reproduced for modern decor.
